When Penelope was born, her Mum Dee knew something was wrong immediately. At 10 weeks old she was admitted to hospital in Chichester and diagnosed with a heart murmur. She was losing weight despite being tube fed, and was soon found to have two holes in her heart. Two weeks later she was transferred to Southampton General Hospital for specialist treatment. She still struggled to gain weight and her health deteriorated.
In December 2015 she was finally stable enough for heart surgery. After five hours of surgery she was reunited with her family in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit.
“It was a sight I never want to see again, my perfect baby girl hooked up to monitors and tubes with beeping going off all around her. That’s when we saw the lovely quilt draped over her little bare legs. The blanket is something we’ll treasure forever. Thank you”
Six days after surgery she was home recovering and just two months later is a happy and smiling baby girl.
